IPL (intense pulsed light) Treatment

Photo Rejuvenation

A clear complexion is something many people want, but even with the most meticulous skincare regimen, blemish-free skin can be difficult to achieve. Photo rejuvenation, which uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology, can help reduce the appearance of some of the most common skin woes, including brown spots, melasma, rosacea, broken capillaries and sun spots. This minimally invasive skin procedure can also help treat signs of aging such as wrinkles or age spots. There’s very little recovery time and few side effects, making it a popular procedure.

Are you a good candidate for IPL / Photo rejuvenation?
If you are routinely frustrated by any of the skin problems below, then photo rejuvenation can be a good choice:
• Rosacea
• Hyperpigmentation (brown spots)
• Wrinkles
• Texture problems
• Large, visible pores
• Melasma
• Excessive flushing
• Freckles
• Age and sun spots
• Broken capillaries

If you are in good general health, have a positive attitude and realistic expectations, you are most likely a good candidate for this procedure.

What does IPL Photo rejuvenation feel like?
The feeling varies from person to person. The sensation felt will depend upon the amount of melanin found in the skin, but generally is described as a heat sensation or even a rubber band pinging on the skin. After the treatment it is not uncommon to feel warm (like a mild sunburn) in the area treated.

How’s the Photo rejuvenation procedure performed?
Photo rejuvenation uses a unique technique known as pulsed light therapy to treat skin blemishes. Essentially, this technology shines bright, intense light on various parts of the skin. You will wear an eye mask to protect your eyes from the light, and your therapist will use a piece of equipment called an IPL device, which includes an apparatus with a glass surface. This apparatus is pressed lightly to the skin, emitting a light that heats up collagen beneath, encouraging the body to produce more of this beneficial protein. Enhanced collagen production can fill in fine lines or wrinkles on the face as well as some shallow acne scars. IPL technology also reduces flushing and discoloration on the skin.
IPL emits a broad range of light waves and can diffuse redness, capillaries, brown spots, discolouration and remove hair.

How many sessions will I need?
On average 1-6 treatments at 3-4 week intervals are needed for the best results. However, it can be used as a stand-alone treatment to boost the complexion. Future top-up treatments will be required after a course to maintain the results (approx. every 3-6 months).

Considerations

Pros-
•Little to no downtime
•Relatively long-lasting improvements in skin quality and texture can be achieved
•Can be performed anywhere on the body

Cons-
•Several treatments may be required before FULL effects are seen
•Not as effective for tanned or darker skin
•Must stay out of the sun after each treatment (use SPF30 at least)
Not as effective on thread veins, acne and pigmentation as their specific treatments (but a great general all-rounder)
